dan santillo – 30/11/2020
On November 30, 2020 by Sophie MartynDan Santillo is a professional photographer based in South Wales specialising in Landscape Photography and Astrophotography of Gower and the Brecon Beacons. He was introduced to photography at an early age by having to wait for ages whilst my father lined up the perfect shot. After completing his A Levels, he did a degree in Satellite Communication and then worked for 7 years as a software engineer. He also adored being in the mountains after walking for a few miles and having the whole landscape to himself and watching the sun set. He is very energetic in his photography and he would go to any length to get a photo. He runs Landscape Photography Workshops to teach people how to take landscape photographs. He was awarded a commendation and a place in the book for one of his photos in Take a View’s Landscape Photographer of the Year 2012 and 2015.
I decided to use Dan as a photographer to influence my photos on the beach. In particular his pictures of the Gower in Wales. I like the way he enhanced the colours in his photos. I did a shoot when I went to wales. I took a lot of photos because the sunset was amazing and I was there for a week so whenever we went on a walk I took my camera. Dan did inspire me to go out in the early mornings and shoot wembury beach on a clear day because it was amazing. To me his work is more than just a picture. I feel like it tells a story. The way he captures the beauty of the sunsets and sunrises all around Wales, is amazing. I like the way he’s framed the ocean in the most beautiful way and you wouldn’t think it was in wales. You would think it is from across the world. If I was to reshoot my Gower photos, I would look alot closer to his work and go up higher in the hills behind the beach, to get more of the beach.
